This week was insane. It was my last week here in the MTC and we were going hard trying to learn all the lessons, trying to get as much feedback as we can because the field was approaching us soooo fast, it was kind of wild. Sister Harmon and I got our fair share of reality doses with a lot of our practice lessons falling through because the people we were supposed to teach were just not showing up and that was actually really hard. We said goodbye to our MTC teachers and were getting ready to head out. But, the week was finishing and the weekend was coming and that meant that the Mission Leadership Seminar was about to go down!
So the Mission Leadership Seminar is where all the new mission presidents come to the MTC to learn and be taught by General Authorities, Quorum of the Twelve AND the first presidency. So basically all my heroes were in the same vicinity as me for a total of 3 days. They all got here on Saturday and I saw so many mission presidents but no general authorities as of Saturday. But then, Sunday came around and there was a rumor going around that all the general authorities were having a Sacrament meeting on campus at the MTC with the mission presidents. So of course knowing this information, after all our meetings the sisters in my district and I decided to follow the security and study/camp outside one of the buildings being prepped for the dinners where all the apostles would be.
About ten minutes into our stake-out, we saw Elder Christofferson, one of the Twelve walk RIGHT PAST US AND HE WAVED AND SMILED!!!! It was seriously sooooo cool!!! So we're all giddy and trying to hold it together when a man walks out of the building we're camping out of and we're trying to focus and study again when he comes up to us and makes conversation. Asks us where we are going, what we're studying and all that jazz. So this guy has a blue name-tag on and it had is name and then underneath what looked like "General Authority Security" but there was this funky glare on it so I wasn't 100% sure. So me, trying to be polite and make conversation asks this man "Are you security for a specific general authority or how does that work" and Sister Kimball in my district just stares at me in disbelief and says "Um Sister Crouch, he is a general authority." and I WAS MORTIFIED!!!! I started DYING laughing and he just bust out laughing and says that that had never happened to him before and that he was going to write about this encounter in his journal. So watch out next conference if you hear a talk about some weird missionary confusing a general authority for security. He then literally walks away and goes "I'm going to go back inside and make sure everyone is safe." Safe to say I made a total goober out of myself in front of general authority!
But other than that, we had a devotional later that night and got to hear Elder Holland speak to us (Which was so incredible) while all members of the Quorum of the Twelve and President Oaks was on the stand with all the missionaries and mission presidents in the audience. There was so much power in one room it was insane. Everyone in that room had been set apart with power and you could feel it. And while we staked out we saw 8 apostles including Uchtdorf so that was cool!
I leave to the field today so next time I write I'll be in Louisiana! I seriously love you all and I can't wait to tell y'all about my adventures in Louisiana! I can't wait to let everyone down there know that God lives and Christ is real! It's why I'm here! Anyways, I hope y'all have an amazing week!
